The Apprenticeship Levy

Aurelia are pleased to announce that we have been approved on the Register of Approved Training Organisations. This means that we can support all Levy paying employers to utilise their Levy through their Apprenticeship Service Account.

In May 2017, the way Government funds Apprenticeships is changing. UK employers with a pay bill over £3 million a year will be required to pay an Apprenticeship Levy. The Levy comes in to effect on the 6th April 2016 (any Apprenticeships started before this date are subject to existing terms)

The Levy that will be taken is 0.5% of an employers pay bill over £3 millione.g. total pay bill is £7.5 million a year, minus £3 million = £4.5 million x 0.5% = £22,500.

Your Levy can be used to pay for any Apprenticeship training for your existing staff or new Apprentices you may recruit. Employers will report and pay the Levy to HMRC through the PAYE process and this will then be put into an Apprenticeship Service Account on a monthly basis.Through the account you can choose a Training Provider and qualification, enter the agreed price for training and pay for the Apprenticeship training. You can register for an account from 13th February 2017.

For those organisations who have a pay bill of less than £3 million a year the Levy does not affect you, however, from the 1st May you will be required to co-invest in any Apprenticeship training that your staff undertake. Government will still fund the majority of the training (90%) but you will have to make a 10% contribution per person.

We are encouraging all of our employers to review your training needs over the next few months to ensure you have employees signed up before the end of April if at all possible to minimise your spending on training next year.
